Established in 1992 at a time when roadworthy testing was first privatized, the business has transformed itself to meet the challenges of its environment. A very welcoming public, who had been tired of queuing at the limited public test stations at the time, supported the growth and expansion of AVTS as it became well known as a pioneer in the industry. Today, AVTS performs an average of 55,000 tests and quality inspections per year; primarily servicing motor dealers, fleet operators and private motorists.
more...Hope at Zikhuphule Primary School
One of the biggest challenges facing South Africa is the non-delivery of important and basic needs, in particular in the field of education. With South Africa’s rate of unemployment standing at 25.5% the rate of poverty remains at a rise and this directly effects the opportunity for children to secure a good education. TÜV SÜD South Africa aims to be a pro-active player in helping South Africa to solve these challenges by contributing through our socially responsible and sustainable approach to our projects. The company has embarked on various educational initiatives to show their commitment towards improving the quality of education in the country. By investing in sustainable educational projects we help eliminate unemployment, poverty and ultimately crime.
Recently TÜV SÜD South Africa Pro-Tec brought back new found hope at Zikhuphule Primary School in Mhluzi Extension 2, Middelburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
The company adopted Zikhuphule Primary School and supported the school with the following renovations, goods and additions, which included:
- Building a new school library and storeroom.
- Converting the existing storeroom and library to 10 new toilet cubicles and sinks, including two wheelchair friendly toilets, to be used by female students and teachers.
- Upgrading the existing male and female ablution facilities.
- Building a brand new building with 3 toilets and 3 uranals for the male students.
- Purchasing around 19 boxes of books for the school library.
- Refurbishing and installing a jungle gym for Grade R’s.
The project took only two months from June 2014 to August 2014 to be completed. The old bathrooms were built in 1995 and were no longer functioning well, there were only three bathrooms to accommodate about 40 teachers and the school was struggling to get funding from the Department of Education.
“We are focusing on the roots of the tree as they are the future of this country” said Leon Nel, CEO of TÜV SÜD South Africa Pro-Tec. He further added that all the company wants in return is good grades, and that they will continue working with the school as a lot still needs to be done.
“ I am truly grateful as the small ones have a lovely gym as well as flushing toilets for all,” said Charles Masango, Principal of the school.
TÜV SÜD South Africa Pro-Tec will continue to support the school and has committed to enclosing the physical training area, paving a road in the school yard, and assisting with equipment and other necessities for the science laboratory.
